The island nation in the Pacific creates a digital copy of itself
The island nation in the Pacific Ocean – Tuvalu – is going to create a digital copy of itself in the metaverse. So it will continue to exist, even if it completely goes under water.
Tuvalu is the first country in the world to launch such a project. Last year, the authorities of Seoul and Barbados shared similar plans, but so far they have not moved far.
“The idea is to continue to function as a state and in addition to preserve our culture, our knowledge, our history in the digital space,” explains Foreign Minister Simon Coffee.
Tuvalu is in real danger due to climate change – every time at high tide, 40% of the metropolitan area is under water. If nothing changes, most likely by the end of the century the country will be completely under water.
The authorities hope that the digital copy will allow Tuvalu to continue to function and preserve its borders and resources in the waters of the Pacific Ocean.
